Eliciting Preferences for the Uptake of Smoking Cessation Apps: Discrete Choice Experiment
A systematic review [10], and interview and think-aloud study [7] informed the selection of relevant factors mapped under the theoretical domains framework (TDF) that influence the uptake of health apps, hereby attributes of this study. The TDF informed our previous research as it provides comprehensive coverage of theory-driven domains of behavior [25].

The development of the CRANK intervention was guided by formalized intervention development approaches, specifically the Medical Research Council (MRC) guidance for developing and evaluating complex interventions [34] and the Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW) [32], drawing upon the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF) [45] and stakeholder input [33].

A related model is the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF), which can be mapped onto COM-B to further categorize influences into the facilitators that increase, and the barriers that hinder, the behavior [30].

The Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF) [27] is a synthesis of 33 theories and 128 psychological constructs and includes 14 domains that can be mapped under the 3 main components of the COM-B model. Taken together, the COM-B and TDF provide a detailed theoretical framework that allows the careful consideration of factors influencing engagement with health and well-being apps (Figure 1 [20]).

The theoretical domains framework (TDF) [24] has previously been successfully applied for systematic reviews in other contexts [25,26]. The 14 domains of the TDF, described elsewhere [24], offer a concise coding framework that can be usefully conceptualized as possible targets for behavior change interventions. The TDF, being linked to the COM-B model [24], can be used as subthemes under the components of the COM-B model (see Multimedia Appendix 1).
