Gender Equality Training for Students in Higher Education: Scoping Review
However, in 2016, the Higher Education Authority [7] reported that most of the country’s student unions’ officers tended to be young, White, and male, an inequality also evident internationally. This gender imbalance has been replicated in senior leadership in tertiary institutions [7]). While much has been achieved since 2016, the subsequent report maintains the recommendation to embed gender equality, and equality more broadly, into teaching, learning, research, and quality assurance processes [8].

Although rates of youth incarceration have declined over the past decade, the most recent publicly available data show that in 2021, the United States incarcerated over 24,000 young people [1]. This relatively low number, compared to historical rates (eg, in 2019, there were over 35,000 youth detained), is in part due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which had significant impacts on juvenile legal system facilities and reporting of data related to youth in placement [1].
