Effects of Medical Ozone Injection via Intervertebral Foramen Epidural Space on Postherpetic Neuralgia: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled and Double-Blind Clinical Trial

Effects of Medical Ozone Injection via Intervertebral Foramen Epidural Space on Postherpetic Neuralgia: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled and Double-Blind Clinical Trial

The risk of developing postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) ranges from 5% to more than 30%, and over 30% of patients with PHN experience persistent pain for more than 1 year [5,6]. Moreover, patients with older age, immunosuppression, diabetes, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, psychological stress, and organ transplant are more likely to experience HZ and PHN [4,6,7]. Currently, the treatment strategies for HZ include antiviral drugs, pain control, and prevention of PHN [1,7].

Health Services Usage in Patients Receiving Buprenorphine for Opioid Use Disorder or Long-Term Opioid Therapy for Chronic Pain: Retrospective Cohort Study

Health Services Usage in Patients Receiving Buprenorphine for Opioid Use Disorder or Long-Term Opioid Therapy for Chronic Pain: Retrospective Cohort Study

The specialties initially considered were cardiology, emergency medicine, family practice, mental health, oncology, orthopedics, and pain medicine. The mental health category included visits with clinicians who have a specialty in psychiatry, psychology, or social work. The pain medicine category included visits with a specialty of anesthesiology for which the claim had an evaluation and management code.

Effect of Live Environmental Music Therapy and Prerecorded Music on State Anxiety, Stress, Pain, and Well-Being Levels of Patients and Caregivers in the Emergency Department Waiting Room: Protocol for a Multicenter Randomized Clinical Trial

Effect of Live Environmental Music Therapy and Prerecorded Music on State Anxiety, Stress, Pain, and Well-Being Levels of Patients and Caregivers in the Emergency Department Waiting Room: Protocol for a Multicenter Randomized Clinical Trial

More recent studies highlight the benefits of prerecorded music in reducing anxiety [14-16] or pain [17] levels in adult patients in ED observation rooms. A study on live music therapy in emergency rooms was conducted by Mandel et al [18], including 180 patients (90 intervention, 90 control) who received music therapy sessions over a 3-year period.

Effects of Remote Web-Based Interventions on the Physiological and Psychological States of Patients With Cancer: Systematic Review With Meta-Analysis

Effects of Remote Web-Based Interventions on the Physiological and Psychological States of Patients With Cancer: Systematic Review With Meta-Analysis

Regarding the management of physiological pain in patients with cancer, some studies have shown that remote web-based interventions can improve the intensity of physiological pain [19-22], yet other studies have pointed out that remote web-based interventions did not significantly improve the physiological pain of patients with cancer [23-25]. Some even indicated that remote web-based interventions could exacerbate the physiological pain of patients with cancer [26].

Implementation and Evaluation of a Therapeutic Communication Educational Program for Nurses: Protocol for a Mixed Methods Study

Implementation and Evaluation of a Therapeutic Communication Educational Program for Nurses: Protocol for a Mixed Methods Study

Especially in the dynamic and acute setting of the acute admission ward, patients are susceptible to anxiety, stress, and pain [1,2]. In the acute admission ward, many medical procedures, such as invasive exams and surgery, are well known for causing preprocedural anxiety and stress, with a reported prevalence ranging from 11% to 80% among adult patients undergoing surgery [3,4].

Factors Related to Pain and Disability Outcomes After an Internet-Delivered or Physiotherapist-Led Exercise Program for Individuals With Chronic Whiplash Symptoms: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Study

Factors Related to Pain and Disability Outcomes After an Internet-Delivered or Physiotherapist-Led Exercise Program for Individuals With Chronic Whiplash Symptoms: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Study

In another study, self-efficacy mediated the association between pain intensity and pain-related disability, and kinesiophobia mediated the association between self-efficacy and pain catastrophizing in acute and subacute WAD [11], which can lead to chronic disability. However, that study did not investigate factors related to improvements after rehabilitation.

Understanding the Experiences of Patients With Pancreatic Cancer: Quantitative Analysis of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Patient Registry

Understanding the Experiences of Patients With Pancreatic Cancer: Quantitative Analysis of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Patient Registry

Another publication explored prediagnosis pain and symptom management, with data suggesting that patients who experience pain before their pancreatic cancer diagnosis had a higher likelihood of being diagnosed with metastatic disease, had more frequent and more intense symptoms, and faced more challenges with pain management throughout their experience with pancreatic cancer [8]. Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancer diagnoses.

The Effects of Acupoint Stimulation Combined With Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation on Labor Pain: Protocol for a Stepped Wedge Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial

The Effects of Acupoint Stimulation Combined With Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation on Labor Pain: Protocol for a Stepped Wedge Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial

Childbirth pain is widely regarded as one of the most intense forms of pain, often cited by women as the most severe pain they have ever experienced [1]. Approximately 60% of primiparous women report experiencing severe or extremely severe labor pain [2], with 74.2% scoring 8 or higher on the pain perception scale [3]. The intensity of labor pain can lead to anxiety, fear, and tension, which in turn diminishes pain tolerance and exacerbates the cycle of pain.

Factors Influencing Virtual Reality as a Distraction Tool for Venipuncture in Children: Observational Pilot Feasibility Study

Factors Influencing Virtual Reality as a Distraction Tool for Venipuncture in Children: Observational Pilot Feasibility Study

VR utilizes the notion that attention is finite and can be diverted from pain and discomfort and therefore serves as effective cognitive distraction [2]. VR provides immersive engagement, isolating users from the real-world environment and associated pain and anxiety [1]. VR has been used as a nonpharmacological adjunct in pediatric care in a variety of clinical scenarios [3-9].

Digital, Personalized Clinical Trials Among Older Adults, Lessons Learned From the COVID-19 Pandemic, and Directions for the Future: Aggregated Feasibility Data From Three Trials Among Older Adults

Digital, Personalized Clinical Trials Among Older Adults, Lessons Learned From the COVID-19 Pandemic, and Directions for the Future: Aggregated Feasibility Data From Three Trials Among Older Adults

Personalized trials conducted among older adult cohorts have demonstrated improvement in outcomes across a range of conditions, including chronic pain [30], depression [31], physical activity [32], cancer [33], and the experience of palliative care [34]. While a patient-focused structure in a personalized trial has always been appealing, the uptake for such trials in practice and research has been low [35].
