Reddit data have historically been accessible through free, publicly available application programming interfaces (APIs). Researchers have often used Pushshift’s Reddit API and Reddit’s official API to obtain compiled information about content shared on Reddit, including creation date, submission (post or comment) text, community interactions (likes, upvotes, and downvotes), and more.

Psychometric Evaluation of Large Language Model Embeddings for Personality Trait Prediction
Our study addresses these critical gaps through a systematic evaluation of LLM embeddings on a Reddit dataset [4]. Specifically, we aim to investigate the predictive efficacy of LLM embeddings on a psychology domain and analyze their characterization of key psychology dimensions across each trait. In addition to this, we also investigate the benchmark performance-cost trade-offs across model architecture.

Another study by Rohde et al [8] characterized topics associated with IBD and distress on Reddit and Twitter, finding that symptoms (n=23,294, 47.8%) and medication (n=12,218, 30.1%) were the most prevalent topics. Additionally, a 2023 study by Stemmer et al [9] analyzed the content and sentiments expressed in posts by patients with IBD, revealing that they expressed more sadness and fear compared with a control group of healthy users.

Social media platforms such as X (formerly known as Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, and You Tube play a key role in this expansion, with over 58% of the world’s population actively sharing their opinions, experiences, and concerns on these platforms [13]. These platforms provide researchers with valuable insights into health determinants by allowing the analysis of lifestyle choices, habits, and personal experiences.

Using PRAW and Push Shift application programming interfaces [33,34], tools that help researchers access public Reddit data, we collected posts, comments, likes, upvotes, and unique post identifiers from r/Suboxone (41 K members). There are other subreddits specific to a MOUD option, for example, r/Sublocade, r/Subutex, and r/Methadone.

Reddit is a popular online platform where users can enter long-form posts, comment on posts, and respond to comments. Due to the anonymous nature of the platform, it attracts a large number of TGD people to discuss personal health matters. Reddit forums have been studied to glean a better understanding of mental health [17,18] and sexual health [19], as well as LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) health [20].

The Quality of Dermatology Match Information on Social Media Platforms: Cross-Sectional Analysis
Our study evaluates the accuracy of dermatology match information on popular social media sites where medical students, residents, and attendings discuss medicine and residency application processes—Reddit, Student Doctor Network (SDN), and Tik Tok.
In March 2024, we used the search terms “how to match into dermatology” and “advice for the dermatology match process,” identifying 34 sources and corresponding response comments from Tik Tok (n=10), Reddit (n=14), and SDN (n=10).

The primary purpose of this study is to explore what types of content are posted in r/OCD, a large, public online support forum for OCD hosted on Reddit, to build our understanding of the dynamics and norms of such online support communities.
Reddit is a free online social media platform accessible in most nations in the world that enables registered users (Redditors) to add posts and comments that may include text, images, videos, links, and GIFs in a variety of themed communities known as “subreddits.”

For instance, Park et al [33] applied textual cluster analysis to Reddit subreddits focused on anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), finding that the anxiety and PTSD subreddits were more similar to each other than to the depression subreddit. Kalantari et al [34] examined neurodiversity discourse on Reddit by comparing the ADHD subreddit and the autism subreddit between 2018-2020 using a topic modeling approach.

Popular Treatments of Psoriasis on Social Media: Google Trends Analysis
Notably, two widely used resources in the psoriasis community are the “Psoriasis” group on Facebook and “r/Psoriasis” on Reddit, which collectively have over 110,000 users worldwide. We aimed to analyze the most frequently mentioned treatments on these forums while also exploring how interest has evolved over time. By comparing patient discussions with search trends, this research provides valuable insights into treatment preferences and shifts in public awareness.
