All participants enrolled in the RTMM arm received a Wisepill device (Wisepill Technologies) containing a third-generation SIM card that sends signals to a central server each time the device is opened, a so-called medication event and proxy for medication intake. The signal contains information about the time the device is opened, identification number of the device, and technical information about the battery and strength of the signal.
