Intermittent Versus Continuous Low-Energy Diet in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes: Protocol for a Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial

The Mediterranean diet, as described previously by Harvie et al [43], was relatively high in protein (25% energy) with moderate carbohydrate (45% energy from low glycemic load carbohydrates), moderate fat (30% energy from fat: 15% monounsaturated, 8% polyunsaturated, and 7% saturated fatty acids), and limited alcohol to Participants who achieved a trial weight loss goal of 15%, and/or their target weight if greater, were advised to follow a euenergetic Mediterranean diet for weight maintenance.
