While RRSO at the recommended age decreases the risk of ovarian cancer by around 96% [7,8], it also initiates premature surgical menopause owing to a sudden drop in the levels of ovarian hormones. Whether RRSO also reduces the risk of breast cancer is currently debated. Various early studies have reported a risk reduction of 50%, but this is a substantial overestimation owing to bias [8-11].
